[ Substance 3D Painter ] Masking method using Geometry mask

One way to create masks in Substance 3D Painter is to use Geometry masks.
Geometry masks allow you to create masks on meshes created in 3D applications such as Maya.

In this article, I would like to check the masking method using Geometry mask.

Masking method using Geometry mask

Group the layers before creating the mask.
This allows you to mask entire groups.
For more information on grouping layers, please see this page.

  1. With the layer you want to create a mask selected,
Click the [ thumbnail ] icon.
  2. All meshes of the part selected from [ Texture Set List ] are displayed in [ Properties ].
    Select the mesh to mask.
  3. Go back to the fill layer.

When you create a mask, the number of selected masks is displayed in [ thumbnail ].

For Geometry masks, there is no need to create a layer mask from [ Add black mask ].
This point differs from other masking methods.

Summary

We have confirmed the masking method using Geometry mask.

On the next page, we'll look at layer instancing!
