![[ Substance 3D Painter ] How to paint using Symmetry](https://www.plamophy.com/wp-content/uploads/substance3dpainter-ec-painting-brush-symmetry-01.jpg)
One way to paint with a brush is Symmetry.
Symmetry allows you to paint in multiple locations at the same time. There are two types of symmetry: mirror and radial.
In this article, I would like to review the following painting methods using symmetry.
・How to use mirror symmetry
・How to use radial symmetry
How to use mirror ( symmetrical )

- Click the [ Symmetry ] icon at the top of the screen.
- Click the [ Symmetry Option ] icon,
Select [ Mirror Symmetry ]. - Select the axis of symmetry from [ Mirror X ], [ Mirror Y ], and [ Mirror Z ].
If you want to adjust the axis position, adjust the offset value.
Click the [ Show/Hide Manipulator ] icon to visually navigate from the viewport. - Adjust the brush size and angle and paint.
How to use radial

- Click the [ Symmetry ] icon at the top of the screen.
- Click the [ Symmetry Option ] icon,
Select [ Radial Symmetry ]. - Select the axis of symmetry from [ Mirror X ], [ Mirror Y ], and [ Mirror Z ].
Also, set the [ Count ] and [ Angle Span ] values to adjust the number.
If you want to adjust the center position, adjust the offset value.
Click the [ Show/Hide Manipulator ] icon to visually navigate from the viewport.
Summary
We have confirmed how to paint using two types of symmetry: mirror (symmetrical) and radial.
On the next page, we'll see how to add AO (Ambient Occlusion) to painted normals using a Hard surface material!
